7 Divine Laws of the Universe & Manifestation

As we move along the spiritual path we often come across manifesting or creating our reality; usually in the early stages. It’s kind of like the adolescent’s initiation into the divine laws of the universe.

It’s an important process, a vital part of our ‘Book of Shadows’ and some may even say a birth right.

Logically, it is to our benefit to create a comfortable life. To have shelter, a safe home environment, food, cloths etc (although I think clothes are overrated in Maslow’s needs). To understand the lore of nature, to make a prosperous journey through this Earth life.

So we hook ourselves up to The Law of Attraction and it actually works.

We end up with a mansion on the ocean shores surrounded by conservative anti-climate change enthusiasts who think our new outfit from Tibet is “Adorable” suffering their delightful backhanded compliments  “I like how you’re not obsessed with how you look.”. And, a pay check abundant in soulless, Earth destroying activity that makes us drink an extra two glasses of Pinot on a weds night. And, a karmic lover who breaks our heart over enforcing matrimony prenuptials.

We begin to ask ourselves “I don’t understand, I have everything I’ve ever wanted, so why am I so unhappy”, so often that it has become rhetorical; playful.

7 laws of self mastery
suffering can lead us to our soul’s desire

It’s OK, you are on the right track. You’ve understood a small and important portion of life. That we create our reality. You can throw away the crumpled pages of ‘The Secret’, that you brought 15 years ago. Maybe even burn it in a sacrificial ceremony.

It’s time to rise… and get yourself a copy of Hermes Trismegistus’ the ‘Emerald Tablet’ along with his ‘Corpus Hermeticum’ and work out what is actually going on with you and the universe.

Or you can save a tree or two and read further.

The 7 Hermetic Laws of Self-Mastery

The Hermetic laws came to us from lost Egyptian scribes that were found and translated into Latin in the 15th century and have been slowly returning to the consciousness of the masses through the age of technology.

The texts are said to come from the ancient Messenger God Hermes (Greek) or Thoth (Egypt) – both gods of writing and magic, art in their respective lands and cultures.

It’s important to mention here that the Hermetics are a collaboration of the Gnostic traditions (and many suspect are a combination of the East and the West, as the two crossed over in the lands of Alexandra in ancient times – Indicating a cross over of yogic principle). Of the pursuit of Gnosis — meaning the pursuit of experiential knowledge of spiritual mysteries.

It is understood, that for us to fully embrace the potential of our time on Earth, it is essential for us to fathom and incorporate these laws into our lives. That understanding only one law (that of attraction) is like leaving the bicycle in the garage when you go for a bike ride (I just made that metaphor up BTW).

“The Principles of Truth are Seven; s/he who knows these, understandingly, possesses the Magic Key before whose touch all the Doors of the Temple fly open”.–THE KYBALION”

1. The Principle of Mentalism:

The All is mind; The Universe is Mental.

The principle of mentalism is understanding ‘All is Mind.’ That everything exists within the mind of ‘The All’. Basically, that the Universe itself, at a fundamental level, is Mental. That all phenomena of life, matter and energy of the material universe are thoughts of an infinite and universal, living Mind. Some call this universal intelligence.

In other words, the mind is the operating system and all things are connected through the One mind. This knowledge enables one to apply their mental power to make use all the other laws.

To understand this we can to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life. We can recognise the power of our mind and use it to create the experience we desire. For thoughts become things, and there is nothing under the skies that is not subject to the creative spirit of our imagination, be it an action or a thing.

The Principle of Mentalism, explains the nature of ‘energy,’ ‘power,’ or Shakti and ‘matter’ as being within or a product of the Mind, as it shows up within ourselves and the pervading nature of all things.

When you view or witness everything you think, you develop an understanding of the first principle of Mentalism, which allows you to grasp the 7 laws of the universe, and apply them to your well-being and personal progress.

It explains that THE ALL (which is the Substantial Reality underlying all the outward manifestations and appearances which we know under the terms of “The Material Universe”; the “Phenomena of Life”; “Matter”; “Energy”; and, in short, all that is apparent to our material senses) is SPIRIT, which in itself is UNKNOWABLE and UNDEFINABLE, but which may be considered and thought of as AN UNIVERSAL, INFINITE, LIVING MIND. It also explains that all the phenomenal world or universe is simply a Mental Creation of THE ALL, subject to the Laws of Created Things, and that the universe, as a whole, and in its parts or units, has its existence in the Mind of THE ALL, in which Mind we “live and move and have our being.” This Principle, by establishing the Mental Nature of the Universe, easily explains all of the varied mental and psychic phenomena that occupy such a large portion of the public attention, and which, without such explanation, are non-understandable and defy scientific treatment. An understanding of this great hermetic Principle of Mentalism enables the individual to readily grasp the laws of the Mental Universe, and to apply the same to his well-being and advancement.

The Kybalion – resource page

This principle is the main law which allows the human being to apply their mental capacity to incorporate all other laws, almost perceiving thought as the system of the self, that gives us a seeing into the other layers of our being. To intuit or anticipate other natural and energetic laws; work with them in beneficial ways.

Through this principle Megsie can choose Love over Hate. A scientist can explore the universe and Trump can lie to the masses.

2. The Principle of Correspondence:

As above, so below; as below, so above. As within, so without; as without, so within.

This Principle embodies the truth that there is always a Correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of Being and Life. The old Hermetic axiom ran in these words: “As above, so below; as below, so above.” And the grasping of this Principle gives one the means of solving many a dark paradox, and hidden secret of Nature. There are planes beyond our knowing, but when we apply the Principle of Correspondence to them we are able to understand much that would otherwise be unknowable to us. This Principle is of universal application and manifestation, on the various planes of the material, mental, and spiritual universe — it is an Universal Law.

The Kyballion

Science now accepts that approx 95% of reality goes unseen. There are planes and phenomena beyond our knowing (as the Yogas point out ‘we perceive from our 5 senses and this is our limitation’). Yet, by discovering the patterns that dominate our dimension we can understand what may exist in higher and lower ones.

Our external experience is a reflection of your inner world (as within so without) and one has to change inwardly for their life to change. It is said that with every negative experience, there is an inner belief that created it. And, the only way to improve this is to alter your inner world.

This principle asks us (as adults) to take responsibility for everything in our life. As, with acceptance we can begin to change. Next, there must be a transformation in our inner world, despite the condition of your external world. Cultivate inner peace, maintain a state of positivity and cheerfulness, and eventually, the pieces will start falling into place. Your outside world will in due course change to reflect your inner world.

This may feel easier said than done. However, as the Buddha says ‘ Dukkha can be eliminated’. This can be done by investigating the true nature of the self. Meditation and stillness activities can be great ways of accessing these deeper truths.

Suffering can be overcome meditating on truth

3. The Principle of Vibration:

Nothing rests; Everything moves; Everything vibrates.

This Principle embodies the truth that “everything is in motion”; “everything vibrates”; “nothing is at rest”; facts which Modern Science endorses, and which each new scientific discovery tends to verify. And yet this Hermetic Principle was enunciated thousands of years ago, by the Masters of Ancient Egypt. This Principle explains that the differences between different manifestations of Matter, Energy, Mind, and even Spirit, result largely from varying rates of Vibration. From THE ALL, which is Pure Spirit, down to the grossest form of Matter, all is in vibration — the higher the vibration, the higher the position in the scale. The vibration of Spirit is at such an infinite rate of intensity and rapidity that it is practically at rest — just as a rapidly moving wheel seems to be motionless.

– The Kybalion

Knowing this, we begin to understand that even thoughts have their own vibration. And, can be controlled, to create various results for self mastery and the environment. As we develop insight into the vibration of peace, harmony and flow, so too we can gain power or mastery over ourselves and the outer situations.

You too can raise your vibration for a better life by acts of kindness, watching your thoughts, or finding something beautiful and truly appreciating it. In Yoga we are taught that where our attention goes our universe flows. ( Did I just make that up)

Suffering can ease when we go into nature

4. The Principle of Polarity:

Everything is dual; Everything has poles; Everything has its pair of opposites; Like and unlike are the same; Opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; Extremes meet; All truths, are but half-truths; All paradoxes may be reconciled. This Principle embodies the truth that “everything is dual”; “everything has two poles”; “everything has its pair of opposites,” all of which were old Hermetic axioms. It explains the old paradoxes, that have perplexed so many, which have been stated as follows: “Thesis and anti-thesis are identical in nature, but different in degree”; “opposites are the same, differing only in degree”; “the pairs of opposites may be reconciled”; “extremes meet”; “everything is and isn’t, at the same time”; “all truths are but half-truths”; “every truth is half-false”; “there are two sides to everything,” etc., etc., etc. It explains that in everything there are two poles, or opposite aspects, and that “opposites” are really only the two extremes of the same thing, with many varying degrees between them.

– The Kybalion

This principle is important to Hermetic traditions, because it shows we can change a polarity based on our thoughts or feelings (All is Mind). Similar to the example of changing love to hate – It is an emotion vibrating at different levels or opposites.

This practice is the art of Mental Alchemy, by using our willpower for the betterment of our life and others. And, in Yoga is considered an essential part of our spiritual development.

5. The Principle of Rhythm:

Everything flows, out and in; Everything has its tides; All things rise and fall; The pendulum swing manifests in everything; The measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; Rhythm compensates.

This Principle embodies the truth that in everything there is manifested a measured motion, to and fro; a flow and inflow; a swing backward and forward; a pendulum-like movement; a tide-like ebb and flow; a high-tide and low-tide; between the two poles which exist in accordance with the Principle of Polarity described a moment ago. There is always an action and a reaction; an advance and a retreat a rising and a sinking. This is in the affairs of the Universe, suns, worlds, men, animals, mind, energy, and matter. This law is manifest in the creation and destruction of worlds; in the rise and fall of nations; in the life of all things; and finally in the mental states of Man (and it is with this latter that the Hermetists find the understanding of the Principle most important).

– The Kybalion

When you are in tune with the Principle of Rhythm and understand that every mental state exists in Rhythm, always ebbing and flowing, you can learn to use this principle to your advantage by polarizing yourself to the degree you desire. Then, through awareness of this principle and how it manifests, holding yourself there to keep the pendulum from swinging you back again to its extreme.

Understanding and practicing with the Principle of Rhythm helps one attain mastery over their emotions, moods and thoughts, despite external events. It empowers one to maintain a state of blissful serenity whether in downfalll or uprise, profit or loss; sickness or health. Every mental state has a rhythm ebbing and flowing.

Accepting that things you lose may return, and that things you own, may disappear. The Buddhist principle of impermanence or ‘this too shall pass’ is a helpful practice with the rhythm principle.

People who experience self-mastery exercise this to some degree. And, those who consciously use their will with this law are able to act from a place of purpose, as opposed to letting the pendulum swing them into reactivity.

Surrender your suffering to the divine

6. The Principle of Cause & Effect:

Every cause has its effect; Every effect has its cause; Everything happens according to law’ Chance is but a name for law not recognized’ There are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law.

This Principle embodies the fact that there is a Cause for every Effect; an Effect from every Cause. It explains that: “Everything Happens according to Law”; that nothing ever “merely happens”; that there is no such thing as Chance; that while there are various planes of Cause and Effect, the higher dominating the lower planes, still nothing ever entirely escapes the Law. The Hermetists understand the art and methods of rising above the ordinary plane of Cause and Effect, to a certain degree, and by mentally rising to a higher plane they become Causers instead of Effects. The masses of people are carried along, obedient to environment; the wills and desires of others stronger than themselves; heredity; suggestion; and other outward causes moving them about like pawns on the Chessboard of Life. But the Masters, rising to the plane above, dominate their moods, characters, qualities, and powers, as well as the environment surrounding them, and become Movers instead of pawns. They help to PLAY THE GAME OF LIFE, instead of being played and moved about by other wills and environment.

– The Kybalion

And, of course, when we become someone who has mastery, and can control our moods, character, and the environment around us — we will naturally have to obey the causation of higher planes in accordance to this principle. But, the valuable quality of this law, is that having awareness of it will give you the ability to create on this plane. Without abiding in the role of victim.

A time of healing and self compassionate practice may very well be necessary as we change and as a part of self mastery. It is always good to reach out to an elder or a wise one. Someone compassionate.

In the Yogas it is advised to cultivate your intuition to enhance the benefits of this principle.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is an option

7. The Principle of Gender:

Gender is in everything; Everything has its masculine and feminine principles; Gender manifests on all planes.

This Principle embodies the truth that there is GENDER manifested in everything — the Masculine and Feminine Principles ever at work. This is true not only of the Physical Plane, but of the Mental and even the Spiritual Planes. On the Physical Plane, the Principle manifests as SEX, on the higher planes it takes higher forms, but the Principle is ever the same. No creation, physical, mental or spiritual, is possible without this Principle. An understanding of its laws will throw light on many a subject that has perplexed the minds of men. The Principle of Gender works ever in the direction of generation, regeneration, and creation. Everything, and every person, contains the two Elements or Principles, or this great Principle, within it, him or her. Every Male thing has the Female Element also; every Female contains also the Male Principle. If you would understand the philosophy of Mental and Spiritual Creation, Generation, and Re-generation, you must understand and study this Hermetic Principle.

– The Kybalion

The masculine principle is the assertive, exploratory energy or left brain that drives progress. The feminine is the receptive, sacred, protective energy, that maintains life and traditions and honors what is most important, while nourishing what is most essential to life. Love and intuition, In a nutshell.

The two must be in harmony with the whole in each human. If the masculine is overpowering the result will be a chaotic world and the feminine will not be able to function well without the assertiveness element of the masculine principle. We also see this in all matter as well as in the human psyche.

We see in the Yogas the principle of Shakti and Shiva, which similarly must unite in harmony for the individual soul to be Free from Suffering or limitations.

It’s a long and winding road, but one worth taking!

Practice the love and harmony you wish for. Practice the love you seek.

May all beings Vibrate within, the harmony of the Laws of Nature

Warm Blessings
